conducted to assess whether the applicant should be hired. Interviews are
one of the most popularly used devices for employee selection.(source Wikipedia.org)
What is common job
interview Question’s?
Common interview questions, refers to the typical question a job
interviewer usually ask, like Tell me about your-self, what is your strength,
what is your weakness, and many more. However if you’re thinking that this
question are easy to answer, think again because this questions is tricky,
sometimes interviewer use this question’s as a basic fundamental to filter
applicant fast, like what we discuss in our last blog about DO’S AND DON’TS ON AJOB INTERVIEW.
However I wrote on this blog the top 10 most common
question that you might hear on your next interview.
Quote of the Day:
“Teach
self-denial and make its practice pleasure, and you can create for the world a
destiny more sublime that ever issued from the brain of the wildest dream
-Walter
scott
Here are the top 10 common interview question and how to
answer them.
1 Tell Me about Your-Self-
Perhaps
this is the most common question ever, but did you know that interviewer use
this question to know the summary of your status, this question is so tricky
and so many fail to prepare for it.
However
to answer this question you just simply need to give 2-3 brief achievement from
your job, or brief introduction why will you be fit on the
position that you are applying for.
Example
scenario:
Interviewer: “Tell
me about yourself?”
Mr. jobless: “
I am Jobless or you can call me Jobby, I am a civil engineer with 5 years’
experience mostly on infrastructure, my previous company is Biggest Engineering
Consultancy, and in my five years I already finish 3 projects, those are Jones
bridge, Maktoum Bridges, and London Bridge.
You
have to answer as precise as you can and as simple as my example don’t
elaborate your whole life.
2 Why Do You Want To Work With Us? –
As
you can see this question seems so easy, like you can answer it directly with
“I want to work here because your company have a good benefits and a good name”
but this answer will be a cliché or not original because
interviewer for sure knows that you already answer that to all your other or
previous jobs, here’s the thing, this question usually ask to test your loyalty
and trust.
The
best way to answer this kind of question is, (whenever you have an interview,
always do a research about the company profile) in that way you will know their
benefits and success story, company profile, and achievements, write it down on
a piece of paper and compose your spill. So the time, this question ask, you
already know what to answer. Reminder, just make it simple and short.
3 What Are Your Strength? –
For
sure you have much strength, so answering this question will be easy, unless
you know which strength you should tell. What you have to do, focus on the
strength that you think most useful in their company not some strength that
irrelevant or just sugar coated. Give at least 2 of your strength that you
think is the most useful for the position.
However
don’t elaborate it too much, because the more you speak the more you are prone
to make mistake. Less talk less mistake, just make sure to pinpoint those key
interests that you have.
4 What are your weaknesses? –
Weaknesses definitely just the opposite of your
strength, however you should tell the lease of your weaknesses, that won’t
oppose your strength, hence you should answer it with heart and not with sugar
coated word for sympathy, remember that lurking sympathy is sign of weakness.
And if the interviewer saw that want sympathy it will be negative point for
you, because this question is a test of your honesty, not an audition for drama
acting.
5 Where Do You Want To See Your-self in 5
years?
Again this is a tricky question it might look
simple but the thing is, it’s all about honesty and loyalty, and how hard you
can work for the company, or how long you can work for them.
When ask, you have to answer precise and short because it is also a question to
your-self of how long you’re going to stay with them, however if you’re
planning to stay for them for long time, here’s one of the simplest answer
“after 5 years or so, I’ll make sure that I won’t be in the position that I am
applying right now”. However you can make your own answer but make it short as
possible like my sample.
6 How do you deal with
pressure or stressful situations?
This question will act like a test of your
limitation, and how you will finish a job on time. To answer this kind of
question you have to choose within what you experience at your past job, be
sure to choose the most appropriate or the most relevant. Show your interviewer
how you handled it with ease; show him that you’re aggressive with that kind of
pressure. But again to be safe make it short and precise. Don’t ever make life
long story at your interviewer.
7 Why Should We Hire
You?
This is an indeed a very crucial question, this
is where your fate lies; to answer this question you must show them that you’re
tough, that you can face any hard circumstances but make sure that your answer
is not overacted like fairy tales, you must think and compose and answer like
for example:
Interviewer: “why should we hire you?”
Mr. Jobless: “you should hire me, because I have my
proven skills and experience that fit with the position that I am applying for.
And the fact that I have a clean good record to my previous employer’s that you
can check out with the numbers on my references person.
Like what I said this
is a crucial question make sure to think about it a ton and write it down on a
piece of paper and read it before your interview.
8 How Other People
Describe You?
This question is like tell me about your-self in
other peoples opinion, to answer this question you just need to tell the
interviewer the truth don’t ever make yourself so good, or sugar coat
your-self. Because this question is about, how you will interact with other,
and how you socialize with your co-workers.
Example:
Interviewer: “how other people describe you?”
Mr. Jobless: “as for my friends they say I am quite and
simple, focus and responsible.”
Just make sure you
answer this question as serious as you can don’t make laugh out of your answer.
9 What do you think we could do better or
differently?
This question is a test of how creative you are,
and how fast your decision making is. There is no right and wrong answer on
this question, however it’s much better if you observe at their company and
compose an answer before the interview, this will involve your research as
well. And be sure to answer fast to this question as said this is a test on how
fast you will response and how fast can you make a decision.
10 What is your expected
salary?
This question is one of the key factors that
will make them hire you, and this is one of the main factors that you should
research. Like while on the waiting area or lobby try to talk with the
receptionist ask about their salary range in that way you will have an idea on
how much salary you should expect, make sure that your always above the range,
so that they will give you their final offer or last offer.
God Bless Us all and Happy Job Hunting!
