Why you are getting rejected?
Many job hunters or
applicants wondering about how or why their job application gets rejected, or
the CV’s that they pass on to a hiring company, Even though his/her skills, experience,
and knowledge is qualified he/she still getting rejected. I know many of us
wondering the same thoughts about why we can’t get a job and this kind of
scenario can sometimes lead to frustration, stress, depression and worst case
scenario death due to suicide.
In this article I’ve
written some reason why job application gets rejected, or not entertained by
the hiring parties, HR, or Document controllers.
Quote of the Day:
“Time
management is dead; in our day the true struggle is focus management.”
-Dave Crenshaw
Here are some reasons why we get rejected?
1 Overkill Curriculum
Vitae-
Overkill
CV’s or Curriculum vitae basically a CV which is compose of unnecessary
contents or useless entities, study shows that lots of companies and hiring individual
don’t read over content CV’s, one of the reason is based on surveys overkill CV
is tiring to read, it hurts their eye, and some of them is just lazy reading
stuff’s. So this means even though your CV is made up of your life story
achievements knowledge that you think may qualify you well think again, as I
discuss in our recent blog about making impressive CV, one of the best
and effective CV is the simplest yet eye catchy one, or Simple, Short and
informative.
2 Curriculum Vitae
Structure
One
of the crucial part of our CV is the structure, this basically how we arrange
our CV from header to footer. Standard CV arrangement start from heading
composed of your name, address, and contact details, objectives and then
followed by educational attainment and certificates, achievements, and then
work experienced and last is your biography. While some conventional even
include their OJT and trainings this commonly used by fresh graduate
individuals that doesn’t have work experienced yet. But conventional CV is not
recommended for those individuals that have a lot of working experienced
because it will make your CV over populated or overkill. So the point is,
always make your CV standard as possible.
3 Work Experienced
Description/Duties and responsibilities
Work
experience description or duties and responsibilities often cause of overkill
CV’s, because we usually put lots of description on our work experienced to
make our CV’s look full of information, but one survey says HR, hiring manager,
and Interviewers usually don’t care about the job description, or duties and responsibilities
they will just look for the job title and will not read the description, unless
your work experienced is uncommon or extreme. So my advice is to your job
description short and simple so interviewers tend to read it, just put 2-3
description include only the main function of your work.
4
Unnecessary - Cover
letter
A
cover letter is a summary of our CV, and not a paper to write your whole life
pleasing story, we often forgot that we just need to write the purpose of our
application and the important content or details on what is attached in our CV’s
like certificates, or school papers, or appraisal papers and again not a paper
to write your life. Cover letter is important attachment of CV, it’s like your
appearance or summary of you, whatever you wrote in a cover letter will reflect
your personality as well.
5 Your Qualification
There’s
2 type of qualification, over qualified and unqualified, over qualified means
that your work experience and educational background, achievements are above
the said job so employer tend to think that you’re a high value applicant and
will not accept their offer. Unqualified, we know the meaning of unqualified
for sure, it means that you are not qualified for the job or your skills is
lack or maybe your educational background is irrelevant, but sometimes employer
take advantage this unqualified applicants and give them low offer. And the
applicants will leave no choice whether to have a job or be unqualified.
6 Readability of your
CV
As
I mention on no. 1 reason in structure, one of the most important part of your
CV is the font Choice so that employer can read your CV easily and good
soothing text CV always have high chance of getting read than a poor over power
fonts. Here are some fonts that usually good to read.
1
‘Open Sans’ - this font is the font I am using and what you reading right now.
2
Arial – arial is one of the most common fonts that we often use in everyday
typing.
3
calibri – Calibri sometimes is the default font of Microsoft word.
7 Educational Statuses
Educational
attainment now a day is one of the most important parts of your CV, because employer
usually relies on what you master or what you’ve studied. They surveys suggest
that 40% of your chances to get hired is based on educational background. Which
in my opinion this criteria is unfair because it happens to me as well, I
studied as a Computer Technician/Information Technology, but I after I graduate
I am not even qualified for any technician or Tech support job and I end up
being in sales, and now a secretary which is far from what I’ve studied but that’s
just society work’s.
8 Spelling and grammar
Spelling
and grammar is important part of your CV structure, because it will reflect your
knowledge and language skills, so my advice is to double check or read your CV
twice after you finish writing one, make sure to have a correct spelling and
grammar to lessen and avoid the chance of being unattractive and not impressive
CV.
